You Say Semantics, I Say Anti-Semantics

I was thinking about the use of the word "Christian" in terms of the Religious Right and how it annoys so many of us who see nothing particularly "Christian" about it, and I decided that Christians and people left of the Religious Right, whether they are Christian or not, should start using the term "Anti-Christian" to describe religious Conservatives.

It is, afterall, more accurate - as even the most cursory of glances at the New Testament and the teachings of Christ will testify. The politics of Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples is undeniably left of today's Left - including the Left here in Canada under Jack Layton's leadership - so it simply isn't possible for a Republican or even a New Conservative to be a real Christian.

It just isn't.

So why should people who are actually Christian, real life practicing Christians, have their collective name dragged through the muck by political movements of anti-Christian rightwingers?

It would take some doing, of course, since the Media really likes to choose terms to better reflect the a funhouse reflection of reality, but there you go - since when haven't Christians - real Christians - been up to a challenge?
