Homelands
Well, I watched The Agenda's week long Israel/Palestine-a-thon and actually came to an accomodation of the topic - after doing a couple of 180s per episode, too.
Anyway, I've finally decided that the Middle East is just so much nonsense, that it's populated by stubborn and uncompromising people so fixated on the past that they won't allow themselves a future. The Palestinians have been squeezed/squeezed themselves into a corner from which no kind of country worth living in can emerge and Israel, in its obsessive drive to outnumber its perceived and real enemies, has populated itself with zealots incapable of reason and doomed its future as a country worth living in, too.
Eventually, anyone with options will leave and all that will be left will be the hopeless on one side and the fanatics on the other and vice versa.
It's ridiculous, really, two peoples insisting on the notion of a homeland in a Global Village wherein a country built on immigration, populated by human tribes from all over the world, pulls all the international strings. You'd think they'd notice over in Israel how absurd the arguments for ethnic homelands have actually become, how past the due date they are. But it's like they've got this one idea and they're just going to cling to it like grim death while the mutts of the New World prosper and every few years bring the two old tribes together for peace talks that may as well be barn burnings for all the sense they make - given the agenda.
The point of it is, Middle East: Everybody's got a right to exist - so when you deny your neighbour, you deny yourself, too.
