Marriage Tip of the Day
Okay all you younger female Dear Readers out there. Here is Sooey's marriage tip of the day:
It's all about timing. What you want now, you didn't want when you were 8 and you won't want when you are 35. And all you really want now is not to give up a bird in the hand so some other woman can have him.
So, your marriage won't last, but after several years of playing "Who Suffers More" you can rest assured that he will finally respect you when you leave him AND all the effort you put into trying to change him into someone else was not wasted because you'll have learned that trying to change people makes them think maybe you don't like them the way they are and then they end up being resentful and passive aggressive and being even more like they are than you ever thought possible.
Which is by now the direct opposite of who you want.
Also, be prepared to only want him in the event he finds someone new. This can be a very awkward time for you personally because it's hard to accept that all your efforts to change him are going to be to the benefit of someone else while you really haven't got much going for yourself in the meet someone new department on account of you've wasted so much time on making your bird in the hand better for someone else.
UNLESS, and this is very important Dear Young Female Reader, you are blissfully happy yourself in a new relationship - in which case you desperately want him to be happy in one, too. There is no time for being bigger'n all outdoors as when you are blissfully happy in a new relationship. It is absolutely the best time to wish goodwill upon your fellow man, especially your ex.
And that's how it all ends. Everybody gets to be happy because after 40 you'll be so busy being yourself and being blissfully happy with someone else being himself that you won't have time to work on changing him into someone better for someone else.
