Competing with Gawd

I guess the idea that has been seized upon by our current crop of legislators is that women should now have to compete with Gawd for their rights. I mean, Feminists made a fair degree of headway with men, so now we're going to have to take on Gawd as he speaks through men - men who have legislative power.

Hm... I dunno, ladies. Gawd is all powerful. This could be a tricky one. In the meantime, I don't think anybody should be getting a free pass here, if we can help it, and I notice Premier Dalton McGuinty has been getting one for quite a while.

Here's the thing. Healthcare and education are both under his watch so I'm not sure why we aren't holding his feet to the fire regarding the entirely unacceptable status quo in terms of women's real and actual rights in this province. With the amalgamation of cities under Mike Harris, many community hospitals are controlled by Catholic administrative boards - as are many community schools - and where Catholic administrators go, a reduction in women's abortion rights is sure to follow.

And it's one thing to have the right, it's quite another to have access to it. That's where Premier McGuinty comes in - or should.

Now without sounding too Protestant, I have to say that the Catholic Church is probably the most discriminatory institution on the planet in terms of women's rights. And recently the Archbishops have been flexing their political muscle to tell politicians that if they don't speak out against abortion rights for women, they won't get their cracker at communion on Sunday.

Funny, but I haven't heard any politicians telling the Archbishops to stick it where the sun don't shine. That's because they're more afraid of the Archbishops on account of they're further up the line to the Pope and the Pope speaks directly to Gawd - than they are of Feminists.

We need to change that, ladies.

Now, I dunno about you, but I have no idea how to compete with Gawd for my rights, so I think this is going to be a tough one. It might even involved pins and dolls and Harry Potter. However, one look at Dalton McGuinty tells me that guy wouldn't have much luck out there in the real world and he probably wants to stay on as Premier for a while.

He's the weak link.

So, I say we give him a really rough ride until he stands up for our rights because he's more afraid of us than he is of Gawd.

In the meantime - "Hey Gawd! Your mother wears army boots!"
