On Proving a Phobia's a Menace
I've noticed that many bloggers in favour of the section of the Canadian Human Right Commission that allows for complaints against offensive speech to be made by citizens, that are then investigated, prosecuted and judged by the CHRC, point out that they do not think the complaint made against Mark Steyn and Macleans will go ahead to the prosecution stage of the process set out by the CHRC.
???
I dunno. I don't think I'd be going too far out on a limb to argue the opposite, quite frankly. I mean, I really have to wonder how many articles of Mr. Steyn's these bloggers who don't think he'll be found guilty by the CHRC have read to think he doesn't have a bit of a thing going on about Muslims. For instance, even now, it seems to me Mr. Steyn's defence against the charge at hand (which is essentially that he is Anti-Muslim) is to argue that his Islamophobia is justified BECAUSE of the danger presented to the western world by Muslims. He has even, in several articles since the charge, gone on to accuse Feminists and anyone else who doesn't agree with his version of reality, of aiding and abetting an Islamic Menace in its determined and illegitimate attempt to take over the world.
You know, Conrad Black's lawyer didn't tell Conrad Black to shut up, either, is all I'm sayin'. I just wonder why the defenders of the CHRC are so reluctant to ponder the possibility, which seems quite likely to me, that the complaint against Mark Steyn WILL progress to the stage of the CHRC process that leads, so far, in 100% of all cases, to conviction.
