The Hidden Agenda
There is no hidden agenda about to be sprung upon us by Stephen Harper and his New Conservative strategists, Thomas Flanagan and Charles McVety. Bill C-484 and Bill C-10 are no surprise to those of us who can spot a wolf in sheep's clothing. But Feminists have sharp senses because, well, we get a lot of sense sharpening practice.
Bill C-484 isn't even the first determined step in recriminalizing abortion. The government has been busily stacking judiciary panels with pro-lifers and stripping women's legal aid groups of funding since Stephen Harper was first sworn in. We are being governed by Christian Evangelical Pro-Lifers and the alarm bells were sounded long before the government was elected.
The powers that be want this government because it works for them, not us. So it is south of the border, so it is here, a little bit later.

Look, these guys have waited out so many Liberal governments for the chance to implement a Socially Conservative agenda that there is no way they're ever going to blow it by being called out on something as pedestrian as a Budget. Cripes, that Budget was designed to pull the rug out from any Opposition - precisely in order that the Christian Evangelical Pro-Life agenda would continue to be implemented, buried as it is in bills austensibly about Crime! or (yawn) complicated tax incentives.
Feminists knew this was coming the minute we heard those five promises made by Stephen Harper on the campaign trail that carefully sidestepped everything we knew to be true about him and his REAL Party.
The media, for whatever reason, maybe it's stacked with Christian Evangelical Pro-Lifers, too, did its level best to not inform Canadians as to who these people really are - and still hasn't, as far as I'm concerned. Harper is Bush is McVety is Falwell is Flanagan is Rove. There is no divide of nationality in the world of Social Conservatism. These people are Ideologues and they're dangerous and for some reason, Canadians have decided to bury their heads in the snow and pretend they aren't what they so obviously are - True Believers.
Look, they actively tried to sabotage a Democrat candidate during a Primary - AND they may well have got away with it. Who do you think they did that for if not their Republican Gawd?
Anyway, bribes and leaks are no biggie to these people because it's not about politics for them, it's about destroying Feminism. Feminism is the Devil. Don't believe me? Conrad Black is in jail but the newspaper he started and the careers he launched are in full swing, further to the Right than ever, the mission to spread the gospel of Social Conservatism expanded such that most of the Canadian media (not to mention, American media) conspired during the last election to make Stephen Harper Prime Minister of Canada.
The unthinkable happened and is happening and Bill C-484 and Bill C-10 are just the visible bits. So what do we do now? Well, first off, assume that any media person who has anything good to say about Stephen Harper et al - is one of them. That's because it's not the media's job to say good things about the government. It's the media's job to expose the government to us.
Think of it as You against a Socially Conservatist Invasion of the Body Snatchers when you read the news and you, too, will soon, very soon, Rabbit, have the sharpened senses of a Feminist.
