Internet Comments vs Real Life Political Actions

This is interesting - Kate McMillan, a blogger, has been "disstanced" by Premier Brad Wall, of the New Saskatchewan Party (old Conservative Party), for basically saying in a mean, but nothing we haven't heard before from politicians on the Right, way that she doesn't think safe injection sites are a good thing. The comment was made on her website, voted Canada's Best Blog for 2007, "AndYourLittleDog,Too", and spotted by a keen-eyed NDPer who apparently has nothing better to do with his time than cruise the Internet looking for mean comments made by Canadian citizens on their own websites, Cam Broten, the MLA for Saskatoon Massey Place.

Oh. Saskatoon Massey Place. Well then. Carry on cruising, Cam.

To his credit, Broten did say that people are entitled to their opinions "no matter how cold, angry, offensive, hurtful or hateful they may be," (yay! meanies unite!) but that the blogger crossed the line in a recent post concerning Saskatoon's Station 20 West project.

Line? What line? There's a line? Yikes. This must be Cam Broten's first time out cruising the Internet or something. Anyway, being a longtime fan of linecrossers and assorted cranks on the Internet (I mean, Al Gore invented the Internet for linecrossing cranks) I'd just like to point out that, however Ms. McMillan may feel about, well, anything - it was actually Premier Brad Wall who cancelled the safe injection site. You know, the guy "disstancing" himself from Ms. McMillan's mean words.

I just thought I'd point that out, especially to Cam Broten, since he kind of dropped the ball on this one by shining the spotlight on Ms. McMillan instead of the guy with all the power to NOT cancel the safe injection site, Premier Brad Wall.

Because, you know, Cam, sticks and stones, like cancelling safe injection sites, are what hurt real live people. Words, well, in the case of Premier Brad Wall, he was happy enough to have Ms. McMillan's endorsement when he was running for election. But yeah, she's probably a bit of a drag on him, now. Just watch, he'll probably pretend he doesn't even recognize her at the next New Saskatchewan Party cross burning.
