Dog-in-the-Manger Politics
Have you ever noticed that when bad things happen in Canada there's a hue and cry from New Conservatives to return us all to a simpler time when we had a much smaller population of people, primarily from the British Isles, and professional people (including religious leaders) had power and authority over all the Joe Six-Packs and Sally Housecoats across the Dominion - because they had more money? And our government said that it was good?
What's slightly mind-boggling to me is that many of those New Conservatives ARE Joe Six-Packs and Sally Housecoats. I mean, what is it about having civil rights that aren't dependent on income that frightens New Conservatives so much that they're constantly wanting to give them up to government and authority in return for tax cuts for the rich or the illusion of security or just so other Joe Six-Packs and Sally Housecoats can't have them?
