I mean, c'mon. We can mock Sarah Palin until a Russian cow jumps over the American moon but would YOU turn down the chance to run for Vice President of the United States of America?
No, no you would not. So don't blame Sarah Palin for being somewhat of an idiot. Blame the Republican Party for being a lot of an idiot.
We've got a New Conservative candidate here in Ottawa Centre, a funeral home operator, and one of those perennial runners for political office, who told some woman who asked about arts funding at an all candidates meeting to go home and get pregnant and collect E.I.
It's funny, isn't it. I'm sure he thinks very highly of himself as a small businessman, and no doubt he'll stand to benefit from Stephen Harper's New Conservative government. Again. Meanwhile, most of us here in Ottawa just think of him as a vulture, a typical guy in the money out for more money, trading on people's sorrow for $$$s.
I see the artist as the REAL small businessman and find it pretty ironic that Brian McGarry thinks he's in a better class of operator because he makes a living off the dead. But what do I know. I'm not a vulture. Or even a New Conservative.
I dunno but the Liberals really overestimate the rosy view even those of us on the left associate with the old Canada of Liberal Party values. Don't get me wrong. I think Stephen Harper and the New Conservatives are incompetent sell-outs to Republicanism and I hope they don't get even a minority government. But I'm pretty sure the reason many Canadians don't respond to "verrrrry scarrrrry Stephen Harper Canada" vs "Liberal Party values Canada" is that they were never really that fond of "Liberal Party values Canada". It's not so much the message as it is the messenger that is having a deaf ear turned to it.
Apparently the hilariously named R.E.A.L. Women (because real women would be misleading) is celebrating its 25th anniversary. I know this because all its purse-lipped Conservative supporters are posting white-gloved entries of congratulations, butt cheeks firmly squeezed together, Feminist voodoo dolls liberally stuck through with pins.
But really, there's only one question to ask about these people: What is it about OTHER women having choices that so terrifies R.E.A.L. Women and its Conservative supporters?
Why, it's that ALL women will soon have the sorts of choices once only money could buy, of course. So, tough nuts, Ladies Who Lunch and the Men Who Want To Pin Them. The class system has been overthrown, the courts will prevail, and you will have to live with the fact that my daughters will one day have the same rights in law as your sons.
Even Stephen Harper and his New Conservatives can't turn back time. We have overcome, Sisters. Let Freedom Reign.
Gawd I laugh when Conservatives (and Liberals) point to the NDP as spendthrift. What's maddening is when the Corporate Media joins in the finger pointing. I mean, you'd never know the Conservatives just misspent us into a deficit, while taking no responsibility whatsoever for poverty or any of the other issues affecting vulnerable Canadians. They took a surplus and squandered it. And then governed punitively, as if it was our fault, not theirs. Why, oh why do Canadians fall for their campaign lies?
So, has anybody ever seen Tina Fey and Sarah Palin in the same place at the same time?
I start wondering if the Republicans will stage a Terrorist attack to get out from under. Oh, and what's with all these Conservatives turning on Sarah Palin all of a sudden? Is it because she's a woman? Is it because she's pretty? Is it because she's confident? WHY?!
SterilizeThePoor
What do you want to bet the Numbnuz is Anti-Choice, too? Anyway, since it's pretty clear that Capitalism causes way more poverty than welfare does, why not sterilize Capitalists? Or, at the very least, the generational inheritors of money responsible for the biggest American financial collapse since the Depression?
Hey, shouldn't Sarah Palin want world peace or to feed the world's hungry children? I mean, c'mon - what kind of Beauty Queen is she? Anyway, why do Democrats want her off the ticket? Isn't she the best thing to have happened to them since Bill Clinton?
And just for the Republican record, how is Sarah Palin any more out of it than George W. Bush OR John McCain?
Why are New Conservatives defending the administration of the United States as this financial crisis reveals the unbelievable stupidity of having little government regulation over the financial industry?
And as this all plays out, it struck me that there are millions of Americans who don't really care what happens because they already don't have anything.
In any case, I hope the Terrorists! aren't watching. Talk about a last laugh.
Oh, does anybody else think this financial crisis is being manufactured by the Republicans to knock Sarah Palin off the front pages? Yeah. Me neither. They're not that smart.
Good thing they don't have capitalist punishment in the United States, eh?
What does it really mean when political parties claim "we" can't afford to do something? Because I keep hearing Stephen Harper claim "we" can't afford to do all kinds of things, that "we" have to cut spending. And yet, it's not true, is it. New Conservative spending priorities get all the money they need and then some. For instance, one of the first things the New Conservatives did when they gained power was to up the mission in Afghanistan. And they didn't really cut spending, they just reduced the GST so there wasn't enough money to go around to fund stuff New Conservatives don't care about. I mean, it's all just a matter of priorities. But seriously, what sort of adult person do you have to be, in this day and age, to not think we should be devoting a significant amount of government revenue to stronger environmental protection laws and investment in cleaner methods of energy production? I mean, we're hardly a poor country. How come we can't afford to do anything forward looking or proactive with regards to our own environment anymore?
1. How will naming young offenders convicted of serious crimes affect the crime rate?
2. How will tougher sentences for young offenders convicted of serious crimes affect the crime rate?
But here's a bone, New Conservatives - alcohol is a factor in many serious crimes. Why not campaign to bring back Prohibition?
"We've even got Gilles Duceppe looking for a raison d'etre".
Uh... because we've got a federal government that's just as separatist as he is?
"Mommy? Why is the President foreclosing on our house?"
Look, another term for federal bailout is "Holy Shit, time to nationalize the banks!" And now, the United States government owns a bunch of unsellable houses. 1930s here we come!
I dunno but if those lying bastard New Conservatives tell me one more time that the banking system in Canada is safe, I'm going to withdraw all my money and stash it under my futon. Cripes, and Jim Flaherty just claimed to be in touch with the Federal Reserve Chairman in the United States - every day!
Gawd, I'd love to hear that daily conversation: "Yes, Mr. Farty, I'll be sure to tell him you called. Again. I'm hanging up now. Bye."
You know what? The sad thing is, I doubt Gerry Ritz even thought up that pun "death by a thousand cold cuts". He's not smart enough. A staffer said it, and he repeated it. I'll bet money on that one. Takers?
I wonder, how many Canadians really support the War in Afghanistan? Because the New Conservatives have spent a lot of money on it, without really ever having received a mandate to do so from the electorate. And yet, Stephen Harper is arguing right now, on the campaign trail, that there's only so much in tax dollars to go around, by way of explaining his government's decision to cut funding for all things Canadiana that he claims Canadians don't really need or want anymore.
Now, I know all about the New Conservative hidden agenda. It comes from guys like Thomas Flanagan, a professor at the University of Calgary who came up here from the U.S. in the early 70s (hm...) and some sort of self-styled preacher named Charles McVety, also here from the good old U.S. of A. Their idea is to strip the Canadian government of its operating budget so that the New Conservatives can finally lay claim to their ideology, that government is a bad thing, that it's inefficient, and that privatization is the answer, the new wave of the future. (You know, like down South where the administration has pretty much gone from anything goes as long as it's private to nationalizing the banks.)
So, if I know this, how is it that the Canadian media doesn't seem to know it, too? You know, so Stephen Harper actually gets called on it during an election campaign?
She more than makes up for Joe Biden.
That's right. I admire anyone who can piss off the discretion observers, the tsktskers, the you can't say that in here crowd. Our motto?
SCREW DECORUM!!
It's not Dion. Dion's okay. It's the LPC. Nobody likes it. The LPC right now is like the guy who tells a joke about a school bus crash during the funeral: "Too soon! Too soon!"
Personally, I think Stephane Dion's decision to backburner the Green Shift was probably as good a decision as any. I mean, Canadians are stupid or why would Stephen Harper be leading in the polls? And the Canadian media is several layers below stupid or why would it be solidly behind the New Conservatives? Personally, I think it's a reasonable and innovative way of taxing polluters that is positive, rather than punitive, but - I'm not stupid. In any case, all the doomsdaysayers are wrong. If anything, Dion's move will give the campaign a boost because Harper and the New Conservatives, negative incompetent boobs that they are, will hound him on the "Green Shift decision" to the point where Canadians will finally understand it and think it's a good thing.
So, the guy who blew the surplus on a 1% GST cut that benefitted no one - Stephen Harper - assures us that Canadian banks, unlike their counterparts south of the border in LibertarianWonderland, will not be needing bailouts any time soon.
Be afraid, be very afraid. Because isn't it ironic how a Party that blames poor people for our economic woes, well, blames poor people for our economic woes? I mean, it's one thing to be so spectacularly incompetent that you blow our huge surplus on a measly Canadian tax cut when it's clear - even to non-economists - that our idiot American cousin next door is heading into a devastating recession. It's quite another to take no responsibility for it.
The poor will be wearing these Conservative government economic decisions for a long time, I guess. Mike Harris, we hardly knew ye.
Mass murderers on the Right? Or mass murders on the Left?
This is a frequent question asked on the Internet, usually after someone from the Right has tried to attribute ALL the mass murderers to the Left. Like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot AND Hitler. Grr. Hitler is yours, Rightwingers! Quit trying to dump Hitler on the Left! Hitler is the indisputable mascot to the Right!
Anyway, it's pretty stupid but men especially seem to like to argue the finer points of mass murdering politicians (meanwhile, Stephen Harper sure looks like Il Duce to me...) and the argument always starts when some deluded Rightwinger comes along and includes Hitler in with all the mass murderers it regularly attributes to the Left.
And then came SheenaTheMagnificent with this to say about all that: "I suppose the self-identification labels are kinda irrelevant once the nationalization of the financial industry and privatization of the military starts."
Take that, Bush Hitler!
Our Bingocaller-Emeritus, Peter Mansbridge, took it upon himself to question Jack Layton's commitment to jobs vs the environment in that tired old way Conservative media hacks have of letting taxpayers know how they're planning to vote in the next election. He had zeroed in on the Tarsands Development, the most egregious pollution scheme ever devised by oilmen and their best friends - Conservative governments - and Jack Layton pointed out that foreign workers are actually being brought in to develop this oh-so-Canadian project, mostly because the oil industry can get away with paying them less and not bothering with the same occupational health & safety protections they would accord Canadian workers. Also, Albertans themselves (who have one of the best records in developing new energy technologies, according to Mr. Layton) are voicing concerns about the damage the Tarsands development is doing to the province's other natural resources.
Haha! Good question, Mr. C-man!
Why ARE temporary jobs for foreign workers more important to Stephen Harper than the sustainability of Canada's energy policies and the health and well-being of Albertans?
So Stephen Harper is raggin' on the other leaders for proposing "costly programs Canadians can't afford", eh. Well, dude, if you and your New Conservative government can afford Afghanistan and tax cuts for corporations, I'd say you step aside and let Canadians see where you've hidden the rest of our money.
...Than people dying under their watch. First Tony Clement, Minister of Health, cracking jokes about the listeria outbreak at the Democratic Convention, as it slowly kills Canadians in his absence - now Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Food having a few yuks on the campaign trail. I mean, boys - tragedy + time = comedy. We're still in the middle of this thing, not that either of you (responsible Ministers, as you are/were) seem to be aware of that salient fact.
Gee, the media in this country sure is terrified of the NDP, eh? Too funny. What a bunch of Lib/Tory partisan hacks.
Let me put it this way, fellas, Feminists would have supported a black lady Feminist for President over Obama, too.
Seriously, I wonder what the Pope could get for HIS virginity...
Wow. Canadians are SO stupid. Where's that $5,000 savings account/income tax shelter promised in the last budget, Stephen Harper? Oh, that's right - nowhere. And the tuition savings plan that the Liberals brought in under Paul Martin, the one you could buy into at the last minute and get back 20% in post-secondary education fees? The rules have been changed so you have to have been paying into it longer, much longer, to qualify - which makes it way less accessible, doesn't it, less not more. Meaner. Just like the child tax credit. Oh my, those were the days when the Liberals ran things and Canadian taxpayers weren't nickled and dimed by their own government.
Peanuts! Get your peanuts! Stephen Harper is making promises again!
I just read a great comment on another blog, the commenter wondering if it's just a matter of the tone of voice used by angry, fulminating Conservatives that has their allies-in-stupid (thanks again, Elizabeth May) thinking "tax and spend Liberals" must be a bad thing, as opposed to just a smart way to run a big rocky cold country with a sparse population. I mean, think about it. Individuals pay taxes to the government, the government pools the money and spends it on services for the people.
By the way, what have Stephen Harper and his New Conservatives done for Canadians and our economy - that's good, I mean?
Gee, whether she said it or not, I think Elizabeth May is right - Canadians ARE stupid. Anyone who is talking about a New Conservative hidden agenda clearly hasn't been paying attention to what the Harper government has been up to for the past couple of years. Bribing and lying their way to power so they can fire nuclear industry whistle blowers, stack judicial selection panels with Pro-Lifers, introduce Abortion re-criminalization bills under the guise of getting tough on criminals, censor the Arts under the guidance of an American Christian Evangelical loon, redefine Canadian politics under the guidance of an American Libertarian loon, shelve any reports commissioned by their own government that don't fit the ideology of a hard right ideologically driven party dominated by Alberta Separatist Reformers... It's all there in black and white. How bad does it have to get before Canadians say: "Enough!"
You know, it's ridiculous for any middle-aged Canadian to pretend he hasn't benfitted enormously from Liberal/Left governments over his lifetime, so I find it amusing when middle-aged Conservatives imply that others (i.e. women) have somehow benefitted unfairly from government services - as if only middle-aged Conservative men (i.e. whiny sucks) have shouldered the burden of progress for others. I mean, all Conservative men are trying to do now is prevent others from having the same benefits they had (and did not earn in any way shape or form, I might add) by closing the government services door behind them so that others won't have the same easy ride they did. So why they think they sound manly instead of like a litter of barking snarling dogs-in-the-manger, is beyond me.
We all pay the same taxes, we all get the same benefits. Some of us (i.e. Conservative men) just THINK they're more entitled than others. Hence that unending whiiiiiiiiine from the Right.
You know what I think? I think Stephane Dion should speak in French for the duration of the campaign. It's his first language, he's more comfortable in it, and I don't know why he should feel, in an officially bilingual country, that he has to campaign in English in order to be Prime Minister. He's by far the best candidate for the job, but he can't showcase himself to advantage against Stephen Harper because his English isn't strong enough.
Yes, I'm being a smart-ass. But I also mean it. It would be the right thing to do both for him and for us. Otherwise, who are we trying to kid? He's losing (in the campaigning sweepstakes) because he's out front and center trying to sell a detailed environmental plan of action to Canadians in a language in which he really isn't comfortable.
Go ahead. Say it in French. English Canadians don't understand anything but "TAX CUTS!!" in English, anyway. Look, Stephen Harper inherited a government with a $13.2 billion surplus and now, a couple of mismanaged minority government years later, we have a deficit. And English Canada is about to hand him a majority government.
Gawd knows - we deserve it if he gets it.
What kind of lazy-arsed good-for-nothing running-mate is Joe Biden, anyway? Do something, numb-nuts! Shoot a polar bear, fire an in-law, knock up a teenager! Cripes, what do you think this is, anyway? Amateur hour? This is the BIG SHOW!! Now get out there and cause a ruckus! Your country will thank you! Or, at least, vote for your Party...
Thank you, Stockwell Day:
ConJob
Aha! Read (if you can make sense of the shrill and hysterical desperation to discredit Feminism) Jonah Goldberg reveal the hidden Republican agenda via Sarah Palin to expose Feminists who don't support anti-Feminist Republican politicians as Feminists who don't support anti-Feminnist Republican politicians - regardless of gender:
NoReally,IGetPaidToBeThisStupid
I was wondering when John McCain's pin-up days would out the troops:
Gay?No,No,I'mACaptain
By the gay, I mean, way - I wonder how many times McCain has stomped into the closet to call Sarah Palin a cunt?
What do Republicans and New Conservatives have in common? They both lie about their opponents and misrepresent what they're saying. What's the difference between the American media and the Canadian media? The American media calls the Republicans on their lies.
So... John McCain doesn't use a computer because he can't raise his arms over his head?
How tall is his computer? Or does Cindy the Cunt put it up where he can't reach it...
Apparently, the Globe and Mail has the very nasty and clandestine Opus Dei confused with Catholicism. I mean, how does an editorial board make a mistake like that in this day and age? Really, good and decent Canadian Catholics should launch a human rights complaint against our national newspaper for not knowing the difference between a creepy and fascist club of conscienceless fanatics and Catholicism.
So... what does it say about men that politicians and the media think children fall under "women's issues"?
Meanwhile, here's the only REAL women's issue: Conservatives.
Let me get this straight... Stephen Harper calls an unnecessary election in hopes of getting a majority, and while all the other Parties do the right thing of paying a carbon tax to offset the pollution they will cause criss-crossing the nation in trains, planes and automobiles - he and his Party (and they're the rich guys) spend their money on tv ads criticizing Stephane Dion's "record" (uh, dudes, you were the government for the past... 2? 3? years)? Voters, please, plug your ears and watch what they do. It's a no-brainer.
By the way, I now understand the whole carbon tax thingiemcdoodle that Stephane Dion has proposed. It's surprisingly simple: When people pollute because they don't really have a choice (the opposite of what Stephen Harper is doing by calling an unnecessary election that costs taxpayers millions of dollars AND pollutes our planet with unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions he's refusing to pay for), the carbon tax will help pay for a greening project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions somewhere else. This is what the Liberals and NDP are doing to offset the effect of pollution - they are paying to replace polluting infrastructure elsewhere with clean infrastructure.
Not Stephen Harper, though, he'd rather remain an energy pig than admit to a good idea that will actually do something about pollution.
Think of the children. Vote ABC - anything but Conservative.
What the hell do male politicians mean when they say, "I'm personally opposed to abortion, but I support a woman's right to choose", anyway? Do they mean, "I'd divorce the wife if she had one". Or, "I'd cast out the girl child if she had one". Seriously, what is up with the holier'n thou bullshit and why doesn't the media call them on it?
Uh, okay. Could the media please stop referring to Sarah Palin as a Feminist? I mean, bottom line, bare minimum, a Feminist believes in every woman's right to control over her own body. Women who believe other women should be forced to bring unwanted pregnancies to term are not Feminists.
Thank you.
Is an aggressive offense. Or is it? Stephen Harper has done the unforgiveable and called an unnecessary election in hopes of taking Canadian taxpayers from the best of all worlds, a minority government, to the worst of all worlds, an ideologically-driven majority government.
Now, I think he should be punished for calling what is, absolutely, a power grab for the New Conservative Party of Canada, but it's interesting that no one in the mainstream media is calling him on it. And imagine knowing your plans - if you get your majority - are so repellent that you downplay the likelihood of it happening and campaign with the slogan, "Don't worry, we'll probably only get another minority".
I learned today over at Broadsides that Howard Stern is pimping a woman on his radio show (ala Pretty Baby circa 1978): SimpleSimonMetAHymen. Now, as I said in a comment over there, I have a hard time deciding which is funnier - Howard Stern? Or cancer? And it seems like an odd ratings grab attempt for a radio show, but what the hell do I know? Video killed the radio star for me when I was like... born. And I like the unintentional send up of virginity. I mean, most girls break their hymens long before they have sexual intercourse for the first time, so virginity isn't really anything more than a gag item for a radio show auction, anyway.
Remember girls - virginity is just another meaningless Patriarchal construct to be ignored. Like Howard Stern.
SarahPalin'sPerDiems
Gee, she's like... one step up from stealing little soaps out of the White House washrooms. Or... should that be one step down...
I am SO sick of the media (Don Newman - come on down) pretending the NDP is some sort of joke and/or problem in Canadian politics. I mean, Wtf? You're a bunch of talking heads whose LEAST responsibility is to pretend to be impartial. But the NDP is the joke/problem? Gawd. And by the way, Stupids, the problem world over is the "money now" crowd, not the Left. Sacrificing land, water and air quality - not to mention humanity - for money - is the problem right now and its a problem politicians Right of the Left seem to want to ignore. Sort of like you, Stupids.
Why have a public affairs program with a bunch of overpaid hacks deciding who should be running things and who shouldn't? I mean, how are the New Conservatives not a bunch of incompetent bigoted boobs? How are the Liberals not a bunch of incompetent fence-sitters? But the NDP is the joke/problem?
You know, when the public broadcaster is pulling this shit...
You know, they say politics and religion don't mix, but clearly they do. What shouldn't mix at all is journalism and religion, and yet they do, too. To me, that's the big bad. Journalism is supposed to be all about bringing the news of the day to the people, whereas religion is all about faith. But look at the level of deference paid to religion by editorial boards in this country, let alone in the United States. It's shameful, really, but they get away with it - just as they continue to get away with pretending to endorse one Party over another each election, as if they don't do it in between elections, too.
The Liberals should take that tv ad of Stephen Harper talking down to the kids about what a great country Canada is - except at the end have a kid ask, "Then why are you trying to destroy it, Mr. Prime Minister?"
Oh, and I just want all my Readers to know that when others doubted Rumour #1 (whose baby is whose in the Palin clan), I stuck to that rumour like gum on a shoe. Sarah Palin has four kids, one grandkid.
We're having a fun discussion over at Broadsides: SittingPretty about Babs Amiel and her gal pals on the Right. Now, regardless of what you think of Ms. Amiel, it seems to me she personifies Feminism in that she has always, damn the torpedoes, done whatever the hell she wanted. Wanted an abortion? Got one. Wanted a divorce? Got one. Wanted another divorce? Got one. Wanted another... and so on and so forth and more of the same etc etc. Meanwhile, she worked her way up to the top of the most male dominated heap on the planet - Punditry (and the irony of professional blather being a field thoroughly dominated by men while women are supposedly the sex what talks too much should be lost on no one) before shutting the door behind her.
So I have a certain fascination for her, as do men on the Right, obviously. But what I admire and what they admire are two different things. I admire that she's lived her life on her own terms, ambition up front, other women be damned - while making no pretense of caring about anyone but herself. There's a certain honesty to that because if you're really ambitious, and a woman, it's gotta be other women be damned or you're just not going to get very far in this man's world.
Meanwhile, what men on the Right admire about her is that she says what they want to hear. That's all. They're that stupid. She says, "women should not be allowed to have abortions, they should have to stay home with babies, marriage is forever"... and so on and so forth and more of the same etc etc - and they fall at her feet.
So really, when you get right down to it, why do we listen to ANYONE on the Right? It's pretty clear to me that what they say is pretty much the complete opposite of what they do and since it really couldn't be any more obvious than in the Case of Babs Amiel, at what point are we going to start calling them on it? Don't address what they say, address what they do and in no time we'll have exposed them all.
By the way, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sarah Palin has had as many abortions as she's had kids (and that would be four, ya suckers). That's how ambitious these Uber Feminists be. And why not? That kooky nut, thanks to the men on the Right, might just end up the first lady President of the United States. Ambition, thy name is Lady on the Right.
As we head into an election campaign, that's how the abortion issue should be put it to voters by the Pro-Choice side of life. Women have always had the right to choice - morally, practically, and only recently - legally. What the Pro-Life movement, with the help of the New Conservative Party of Canada, is trying to do is (re)criminalize that right. And we can clearly see what sort of country that can lead to, south of the border. But it's happening here, too. The New Conservatives are "New" Conservatives because they're a Pro-Life, Socially Conservative Party. There's no difference between Sarah Palin and most New Conservatives (i.e. Stockwell Day and, I suspect, Stephen Harper) because you're either For a woman's right to choose, or Against a woman's right to choose and both Sarah Palin and the New Conservatives are Against (YOUR right to choose, anyway...). It's really that simple. Unfortunately for women, I suspect Stephen Harper and his New Conservatives will win the election they've just called - or they wouldn't have called it. Listen to him - he knows they're scary, that's why he's pretending they'll just win another minority - when a majority is the more likely outcome.
Spread the word - vote for anybody but the New Conservative in your riding.
Babs Amiel makes an interesting point, well taken by this Left of Left Feminist (although good-looking, I must confess), in the Wall Street Journal that should have Feminists taking a good hard look at the men of the Left, I think:
Imagine watching Sarah Palin, the gun-toting, lifelong member of the NRA, the PTA mom with teased hair and hips half the size of Hillary's, who went ... omigod ... to the University of Idaho and studied journalism. Mrs. Palin with her five kids and one of them still virtually suckling age, going wham through that cement ceiling put there exclusively for good-looking right-wing/populist conservative females by not-so-good-looking left-wing ones (Gloria Steinem excepting). There, pending some terrible goof or revelation, stood the woman most likely to get into the Oval Office as its official occupant rather than as an intern.
I noticed, too, during the nomination battle, that when Bill Clinton came out swinging in support of Hillary, suddenly the male Liberal/Left was all, "Oh well, he was never really Liberal/Left. And now he's clearly quite mad." And Hillary, who had tried to bring in a national healthcare plan as First Lady was suddenly branded as a closet Republican. I'm juss sayin', ladies. It's always sumpthin', it seems, with our fellas.
Did you know that Martha Washington was a older wealthy widow with four children when Colonel George Washington came along and married her? I had no idea, myself, but now that I do - I think it speaks volumes about men, money, women and American politics.
By the way, they had no children of their own. I know, I know - this entry is just an excuse to repost another one:
GayIcons
Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a conservative Republican from Georgia, let slip today what critics have been saying is the subtext of many of the attacks on Barack Obama: He's "uppity."
According to The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, Westmoreland was discussing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's acceptance speech outside the House chamber today when he veered into his thoughts on Michelle and Barack Obama.
"Just from what little I've seen of her and Mister Obama, Senator Obama, they're a member of an elitist class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said.
When a reporter sought clarification on the racially loaded word, Westmoreland replied, "Uppity, yeah."
And... the rest of the sentence...???
Man, that Republican Convention is one hell of a freak show, eh? It's almost as if the Republican Party is asking Americans to play along just one more time, politics is just theatre, life is just a circus. You'd hardly know they're at War. No wait, that IS how to know they're at War, I guess - the Republicans go over-the-top with the Patriotism Parade. Old, white, male, lots of God talk - what's not to like? If you're a Democrat.
Cindy was in a Jackie-O outfit - did you notice? Hilarious. I give her five stars out of five stars for that outfit. She did everything but rabbit ears over the old ball & chain's head. And you had to love that jab at "The (Humorless) One", that part where McCain says he's not the type of guy to think he's the Saviour of his country, the only one who can make America - America again, chuckling as he said it. But it'll backfire because Republicans don't realize what a mess they've made of America - but Americans do. And they're just as humorless as Obama these days.
And Sarah Palin? Gold, baby - gold I tells ya! IF YOU MISS THE '80s! Hahahahahahaha!
I guess the media figures fathers aren't much for looking after their own families anyway or they would ask male politicians the same question they're asking of Sarah Palin, "Who's looking after your family while you're running for election?" I guess it's a given that fathers don't have much to contribute to the family so they may as well be politicians.
Personally, I don't think anyone with a family should be in politics - especially fathers (see above). I want single unattached childless people running the government. That way, we with families can rest assure running the country fairly and dispassionately will come first for our politicians - and we won't have to put up with their families.
How come the Canadian media doesn't think it's a big deal that the current Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, personally authorized a bribe to a sitting Member of Parliament and then told TWO different versions of the supposed truth as to why (???) in sworn testimony last Wednesday? I mean, isn't he suing the Liberal Party for calling him a briber and a liar?
In the spirit of taking aim at the wife and kids (which I think the media should do more, not less, of) it looks to me like Laura Bush and Cindy McCain had their faces done at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.
How do you keep the kids out of a discussion about Sarah Palin? I mean, I keep reading all these columnists, "no, no, no - leave the kids and the families out of it", and I'm thinking, "How?" Honestly. Besides, with politicians, isn't it ALL about the children? And/or the family? Cripes, all the Reagan kids have written books about their parents, the doddering dad, the gay-making mom. Remember Uncle Billy and Miss Lillian? Amy? Chelsea? The Stepford Nixon daughters, the druggie Fords, drunk Betty, drunk Pat, drunk-driving, fiance-killing Laura?
C'mon people! Quit with the bullshit for just one gawddamned freakin' minute - woodja?
Heyyyyy... Wait a minuttttte... How come TV is always telling me to slow down, stop with the go/go/go, put my feet up, and WATCH TV! I work in an office, sitting, in front of a computer, all day. We all do. Who runs around working all day? Who the hell is TV talking about?!
And another thing... Doesn't family programming just make for fat kids?
$20 says Sarah Palin out-debates Joe Biden.

Everyone's ignoring the most important question... who the fuck names their kids Trak, Trig, Willow, Piper and Bristol???
You hear a lot about "proper vetting" and why didn't the Republican Party do a more thorough check on her supposedly kooky views (which pretty much mirror those of George W. Bush) but think back to the decision to invade Iraq. The U.S. administration invaded a sovereign country under the knowingly false pretense that it had weapons of mass destruction. All Sarah Palin wants to do is lead an independent Alaska.
Besides, maybe they DID vet Sarah Palin and found she was just what they were looking for in a President should John McCain suddenly drop dead. I mean, just look at the Republican record. Why would they find Sarah Palin wanting? I bet they're wondering what all the fuss is about. I bet they think she'd make a great President.
Those dumbassed Americans are going to get cool and minty smart Obama and we're going to be stuck with ol' Dead Eyes Harper. Please vote anything but Conservative. I don't think I'll be able to stand the embarassment of those Pro-Life/Death Christian suits from Planet Rerun jackbooting their way through our lives while Americans get a sweet breath of fresh air blowing through theirs.

I notice the Palins have made the date of this pregnancy such that it's mathematically impossible for the daughter to be the mother of Sarah Palin's supposed fifth child. Not that it matters, but I'm still going with Rumour #1. Oh, and adding that Sarah Palin's a fruitcake.
The Democrats are so lame at sabotaging the Republican campaign, that Republicans are having to do it themselves:

Too funny. We won't give you the facts, but we will tell you what to think about rumours we reprint. Oh, and then direct you to where in the MSM the rumour about Sarah Palin's fake pregnancy starts:
FarBeItFromCTV,YaddaYaddaBlahBlah
The most-vicious (hypenated for extra-emphasis) from the left-leaning (ditto) Daily Kos, contains completely unsubstantiated rumours about her recent pregnancy (which we MSM-weasel-like add credibility to with the quote below).
The Anchorage Daily News wrote at the time, "That the pregnancy is so advanced it astonished all who heard the news. The governor, a runner who's always been trim, simply doesn't look pregnant."
Hahahahahaha! That's our New Conservative media. Bringing us its purse-lipped judgement on all the rumours fit to print.
I believe the rumours. Do you believe the rumours?
In any case, Sarah Palin doesn't believe in abortion. Rape? Incest? Vote for Sarah Palin, Men of America! You can rape your own daughter (or your neighbor's) to spread your seed! Maybe you'll go to jail, maybe you won't! Regardless, she'll have to have your baby!
Yay! More souls for God!
