Aging Actresses and Timeless Actors
Here's an interesting little article I lifted from Broadsides:
IfAngelinaJolieIs28,I'llEatMySupportHose
The author sees the usual Hollywood misogyny here, Antonia Zerbisias sees sales - as in teen-aged boys want to see sexy hot moms on the big screen, not old bag moms like... their grandmas. Or... Meg Ryan.
Me? I figure it goes a lot deeper. Hollywood is misogynist - in a sophomoric/gay way, but teen-aged girls, I'm guessing, want to see sexy hot moms on the big screen, too.
No, I think it's more a case of women being seen to grow up, mature, become adults - and the rest of us believing that to be the bad thing. Men, on the hand, stay young forever - like boys. So I take that back about Hollywood being just misogynistic. It clearly hates men even more.
But it's interesting that that's how conditioned women (and men) have become to assuming that age and aging is a bad thing and not what makes us human. Women need to stop caring about this stuff because it's not really our problem. Let men rise up against Hollywood's romantic pairing of Sean Connery with Dakota Fanning. They're really the ones being depicted negatively, if you ask me.
