Remember?
Remember the aggressive propaganda campaign led by the New Conservative Government of Canada and their friends in the corporate rightwing media (CanWest, come on down) against their fellow Canadians who suggested the government was entrenching itself deeper in an unwinnable war in Afghanistan? Remember all that Support the Troops stormtrooping? Taliban Jack namecalling? Remember Mark Steyn et al accusing Canadian feminists (who had done more to expose the Taliban BEFORE they were the Taliban than any Western government) of being Terrorist Stooges because we didn't trust our government to be on the up and up on Afghanistan? Remember how the New Conservatives would never mention Afghanistan on the campaign trail? Then remember how, after they won, they upped the ante on the now-called "Unwinnable Mission" that resulted in most of the Canadian soldier deaths in Afghanistan?
Now, personally, I don't think we should be leaving these "Unwinnable Missions" once we start them - but I'm Canadian that way. I wonder about these New Conservatives, though. I mean, ideologically, I always thought they had a lot in common with the Taliban - now I'm wondering if, well, I'd better not go there. New Conservatives play pretty dirty against Canadians who disagree with them, if I remember correctly.
