I think what bothers me most about Mark Steyn et al is their selective outrage when a woman is murdered by a man, here, in Canada. They react, in print, for money, as if a Muslim man killing a woman is somehow different than a non-Muslim man killing a woman. The fact that they attempt to blame Feminists, regardless of which man is doing the killing, is very telling, too. What I don't understand is why their abhorrent views continue to be published. I'm not talking censorship, I want to know what my enemies think, I just don't understand why they're paid to lie about the murders of women by men, always by men, regardless of religion, race, creed, colour. Anyway, all I can do to counter their big fish status in the very small pond that is Canadian media, is to boycott any outlet that publishes their views. I urge you to do the same. We have to start somewhere. And, in this country, money talks.

The work day is too long and so is the work week. With so many people out of work, why do we soldier on, business as usual, with some people working too much and other people not working enough.

It's stupid.

I propose a 4 day work week consisting of 6 hour days.

As usual, the public sector should lead the way.

By the way, isn't it funny (haha and weird) how Mark Steyn doesn't blame Homeland Security for failing to protect Americans from fanatics living and working right there in the United States - in spite of all those draconian, anti-Constitutional measures put in place by George W. Bush to curtail the rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens? And where's Mark Steyn's usual line about how Feminism prevented the men from fighting back against a lone gunman? I mean, the victims this time were soldiers. I dunno. If Mark Steyn is going to be a typical one-dimensional, one-note Rightwing Pundit (is there any other kind?), a little consistency would be appreciated by this reader.

It's so telling that in the absence of any actual leadership on the Afghanistan file, you know, the kind that isn't just ideological flame fanning to inspire more partisan rhetoric from armchair warriors in our New Conservative friendly media, Canadians are left with the government and now assorted military officials parsing words and suppressing information so as not to be exposed as flat out liars about what the hell we're doing over there by one lone bureaucrat. Medals all 'round, boys.

I take pride in who I am. Always have, always will. I've worked hard my whole life and have never taken anyone's charity, and I'm not about to start now, no matter what. I'm telling you, there's no way I'm going to sit back and let some black president of the United States try to devise a structure to help me pay for the dialysis treatment I so desperately need to survive.
Not over my dead body.
Just who does this Afro-American occupant of the highest office in the land think he is, anyway? Look, I've got nothing against black people, but some of them act like the whole world owes them something. For example, important government subsidies on my dialysis.
You know, I don't recall asking for some black commander in chief to embrace protections that would prohibit insurance companies from dropping my coverage on a whim and operating as if my continued existence on earth were nothing more than a strategic liability. Plus, if I go along with this progressive health-benefits scheme, he'll probably hold it over my head every time I receive vital care with the aid of the government to which I already pay taxes.
Sorry. I've got too much self-respect for that.
Obama needs to know that there's still one American willing to watch his body drown in its own deadly internal toxins rather than have long-overdue reform crammed down his throat.
Fact is, nobody wants some too-big-for-his-britches black president butting in to suggest that everyone, including me, needs to be treated with dignity. Yet this Obama thinks he can just waltz in and and tinker with a health care system that destroys people like myself every single day.
Can you imagine what'd it be like if he weren't just half black?
Seriously, when Obama's done drumming up support for legislation that might allow me to see my daughter graduate from college and prevent me from dying before my 50th birthday, what's next on the agenda? Will he try to keep my life's savings from evaporating in a stock market that operates free of serious governmental oversight? Is there any aspect of capitalism run amok that this guy won't tamper with? Really, Obama, thanks but no thanks. The last person I need help from is some black leader of the federal government in a position to perhaps improve my quality of life.
The worst part is that I'll have to put up with this guy being a black president for at least three more years. I guess all I can do is try to hold out for the 2012 election. Maybe then we'll get a white president back in office. Maybe he'll have the common decency to let me suffer in peace.

What kind of no good bastard (New Conservative MP Gerald Keddy) lives large off the public purse, never spending a dime that didn't come from you and me, then has the nerve to point his wagging finger at people who don't cost taxpayers ANYTHING, and call them no good bastards?

Mayor Larry O'Brien (another New Conservative, at last call) famously called homeless people "pigeons". Well, just so you know, Mayor Larry O'Brien has put the once flush City of Ottawa so deep into the hole that the roads may not be plowed this winter in order that he can have his limosine driven across the street from his home to his taxpayer funded office this winter.

Okay. I understand why certain politicians (and like-minded partisans) dependent on the financial support of oil companies, etc, would want to deny the science which proves that climate change is real, that manmade pollutants are contributing to it, and that we need to take measures now to mitigate its effects.

What I don't understand is why scientists, world over, would fabricate scientific data to prove it all.

Of course, I'm not a conspiracy nut. Especially when I just can't seem to see any motive. Is it just me? Am I not paranoid enough or something?

You spend months telling the people who can do something about a situation - internally - over and over and over again about it, and those people just ignore you and the situation - both - such that eventually you feel a moral obligation to go public with the fact that the people in charge, the people who are supposed to know how to deal with the situation are instead pretending they have no knowledge of it?

I guess our mission in Afghanistan has come to this: bloggers on CBC's jazzy new jazzy news set-up arguing semantics around Afghani victims of torture (not to mention unconscionable government cover-ups followed by officially sanctioned slander campaigns against whistle-blowing good guys). Prisoners of war? Or detainees?

Well, newsflash - either way, they're still human beings, so... your point, please, defender of New Kanada? Call me a Feminist on the Left, but I thought we supposed to be the heroes in white hats delivering Afghanis FROM evil, not to it.

Anyway, it must be tough to be the New Conservative government up against the kind of government whistle-blowing citizens on the side of everything right and good that you claimed to be when you were out trolling for votes from a gullible Canadian public, eh? Which begs the question: who are we to think we know what's best for other citizens? Cripes, we live in a democracy and look who we elected!

Which brings me to Sooey's DOTY Awards for 2009. Why, what's a DOTY Award, you ask? Well, DOTY stands for Douche of the Year. And, although it was hard to narrow it down to just one winner, I did. Indeed. This year's DOTY Award winner is Peter Mackay. Congratulations, Dear Minister. You beat out some pretty tough competition, but, at the end of the day it was clear who deserved it most.

At the same time the government is essentially slandering a whistle-blower on its coverup of Afghan detainee torture, it is conducting a roving inquiry on the supposed upsurge in anti-Semitism here in Canada which seems suspiciously to coincide with the continued bullying by Israel of the occupied Palestinians living in Gaza.

I think Sarah Palin is the Preston Manning of American politics. She's going to split the Right in the United States. And Democrats are going to scoff and chuckle and win an election or two on the back of the two beasts created by a split Right. THEN the Sarah Palin Party is going to swallow the Republican Party whole, as it stands there dumbstruck and impotent, and form a brand new Conservative Party of America.

It'll be called the New Conservative Party of America.

Then, because her kooky accent has become such a target of mockery by liberal America, Sarah Palin shall give way to her successor, Levi, and he will be elected President of the United States of America.

Today on my way to work there was a Mexican standoff on the bus between the driver and a passenger. And when I say Mexican standoff, I mean in the Cuban missile crisis kind of way, where someone had to blink - and luckily, it was Khrushchev. Because, really, I think Kennedy might have been so whacked out on pain killers that he didn't really care one way or the other if the world got blown to smithereens.

Anyway, it's pretty much a simple serpent bus, to use the modern parlance, with a few students getting on and off at various stops. All bus entry is at the front door because it's not a transitway bus, it's just a going to work the slowest way we can think of bus.

So, this morning, it's pretty crowded and people are sort of rolling their eyes and putting up with it. I had a seat because there weren't any oldies on the bus (there usually aren't at rush hour in the morning - hopefully, that's because they're all at the grocery store getting their shopping done so they aren't clogging the aisles on Saturday mornings, when the rest of us do our shopping). But there were lots of people standing.

Luckily, there's a stop a few minutes into my ride when most people get off and so it was this morning. Except that when the doors closed, the bus driver yelled back to a passenger who was standing by the side door, "show me your pass, please - you didn't show me your pass".

I sort of glance over, uncomfortably, I hate it when someone gets caught on the bus without proof of purchase - I just hate it, and see a tall black man, obviously a simple serpent, staring in the direction of the bus driver, "no, I will not show you my pass again. You saw me get on the bus earlier and I'm not going to show you my pass".

Ooh. Yikes. Uncomfortable much, now? Indeed. But the bus driver, having asked once, decides to ask again - although not so much in a question, "sir, I need to see your pass. Come to the front of the bus and show me your pass, please."

"No, I am not coming to the front of the bus. If you want to see my pass, you walk back here and see it."

Quiet intakes of breath all 'round. No one is making eye contact. Another back and forth. No one moves. Especially not the bus (we've been stopped for a couple of minutes now).

Finally, a woman, also black, shouts up to the bus driver, in a very measured tone, "he got off to let other people off and then got on again". There's silence. Finally, the bus driver, and you could just feel him deciding to take the out, "so you saw him on the bus earlier?"

"Yes. I saw him on the bus earlier."

Then, "Just drive your bus, sir!" from Nelson Mandela meets Norma Rae standing there at the side door.

I thought that might have been going a bit far, but, buddy bus driver must have decided he'd picked the wrong passenger to challenge (been there, done that, my good man - a lot) and cut his losses, taking the out offered up by Our Lady of the Busses, and we continued on our way.

Later on into the journey, a young guy tried to argue about what had happened with an older guy, taking the bus driver's side, but he gave up when the older guy said he thought it was pretty bad if you couldn't get off a bus to let other people off without being accused of dodging the fare.

Me, I was taking OLotB's side. And thanking the bus driver for taking the out. Later, at work, I realized how many times in life I've taken on the wrong passenger, only to take us both to the mat.

Lesson learned. When you see an out, take it. It'll make everybody else's day.

Gee, if the New Conservative Government of New Canada is so concerned that new immigrants of the new millennium come to New Canada with a clear understanding that gender equality is an important and valued concept here, why isn't there anything in the New Citizenship Guide about abortion being a legal and accessible medical procedure available to all New Canadian girls and women regardless of race, creed or culture?

I mean, without autonomy over one's body and the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, New Canadian girls and women would have no real or meaningful human rights at all.

Oh dear. It looks to me like a lot of students and faculty at the University of Toronto need a little bit of edjumacating about blackface - which is not browning your face and going to a Halloween Party as the Jamaican bobsled team from "Cool Runnings" while your black friend whitens his face to go as coach John Candy.

That's an homage to "Cool Runnings" and an award-winning costume. Blackface is something else entirely.

Gawd, I bet even a member of the Royal Family could spot the difference on that one.

Normally, when there's a shooting rampage like there was in Fort Worth the other day, RightWing Pundits are on hand to question why the victims didn't do more to stop the gunman, complaining that the Feminization of society has made wimps of men everywhere such that there are no heroes born and bred these days to take all the bullets for the team (because Lord knows, the shooting rampages in the Good Old Days would never have left so many dead in their wakes). David Warren? Mark Steyn? Anyone? Bueller?

By the way, boys, the cop who took down the gunman, full of bullets herself - was a woman.

I suggest you start there and see if you can work your way down again. A purple heart to the first RightWing Pundit to reach bottom.
