an acquaintance of mine has lived in the same neighbourhood in ottawa as stephen harper and his family for years. they're friendly in the way that neighbours are friendly. apparentnly, he frequently calls up folks from the hood, on short notice, to see if they might want to catch a flick.a few weeks ago, the men and their wives got together to see the movie the queen, (at the silvercity)which they all thoroughly enjoyed. according to harper, the queen is much more relaxed in private than the film depicted and that the tony blair character was bang on! it was also revealed that harper is a huge hockey fan, his favourite teams being the maple leafs and the oilers. and there you have it.

a healthy scratch,

the muffin!

Wow! Why don't you send out an alert the next time they go and we can go spy on them?
PS Can you ask your friend if he wears a toupee?

apparently, when my mother went to see the movie the queen, jean chretien and his wife were there, too. clearly, the movie is all the rage with world leaders--it's like cat nip to them.

although harper's hair does look kind of vulcanized, i think it is organic, to him, that is. i forgot to add that his passion for hockey is such that he's writing an academic book about the history of the game in toronto before the first world war, which, you know, sounds like something he would do.

a magically complex story,

the muffin!

The reason most people can't spot Stephen Harper's toupee is they are used to cheap wigs applied by amateurs. The PM's hair bonnet is one of those nifty and expensive Hair Club for Men pieces that are kept in place with substantial hardware. It sort of explains his hard headed position of the arts etc. The other reason Harper's wig looks so natural is - thanks to Canadian taxpayers - he has a full-time hairdresser and make-up artist who travels with him constantly to make sure he doesn't flip his wig in public.
Non-believers can check out early pix of the pre-PM Harper with a wispy comb over in the front. The YPC zealots have done a good job of purging most of the record from the internet. They're the same ones that Puffin pooped Dion. With careful searching you can still find an example or two of the wispy on top Harper. The other tell tale sign is a rather high brow hairline as a rookie MP. Ironic considering his low brow attitude toward the arts. Today's Harper has a much lower hairline. Look fast or the YPCs will do another vanishing act on those photos.
The third way to check is to watch Stephen Harper during outdoor ceremonies on windy days. He usually avoids these but on occasions such as Remembrance Day the odd gust has momentarily levitated his coif. A hair-raising event, indeed.

Jon Stewart comment on Harper's hair, after seeing video of him leaving the GG's: “what kind of magical creature's hair doesn't get messed up in a hailstorm?”

Frankenstein's monster?

Looks like Harper is going to stack the Senate, while Parliament is suspended. Laughing

Harper to fill 18 Senate seats with Tory loyalists

Prime Minister Stephen Harper plans to fill 18 vacancies in the unelected Senate with Conservative loyalists before Christmas, CTV News has learned.

Sources said Harper is concerned the Senate committee system isn't working properly because there are only 20 Conservative senators sitting in the Liberal-dominated Red Chamber.

But according to insiders, what really drove Harper to move quickly and fill the vacant Senate seats is the possibility of losing political power in January at the hands of the Liberal-NDP coalition.
